The French mobile elevating work platforms market: higher and higher!

In 2016, the French Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) market reached 6,300 units. In 2017, 7,600 units have been sold. This year, the French MEWPs market is set to exceed 8,000 units according to our forecast.

Demand for these machineries is on the rise for providing temporary access to workers usually in elevated locations and inaccessible areas. Increasing commercial and residential construction projects coupled with the rise in investments in public infrastructure are also supporting the market. Moreover, the increase of the market is also driven by the growing safety concerns in workplaces.

In France, the Boom Lifts market share is evaluated to 37% of the market. Linked to the recovery of construction activities, sales are growing up with an annual rate of growth of +27% calculated over the last two years. Scissor lifts and Vertical Mast Lifts are the two other main categories. Their market shares are about 30% and 33% respectively.

The major customers for this market are the rental companies. In 2017, sales to renters accounted for around 70% of the total. But, they have been very active during the first quarter 2018 and sales to renters grew by 51% compared to Q1 2017, reaching 81% of the total market.
